Next summer I am totally camping on the beach. I’ve never done it. What kind of Californian am I?

Tonight I went to San Pedro with Rachel and her dad for the Grunion Run. If you are unfamiliar, a grunion is a fish and is unique because they spawn on land. They come up with the tide, flop around on the beach, and go back when they’re all makin’ sweet fishy love. They also come out at like midnight when the tide is at the highest, so I got home around 2:00 a.m. and am now very sleepy.
It was really cool seeing such a weird, natural phenomenon. There was also a really cheese 1969 educational video on grunions, milking them for their goodies, and watching them hatch.
The picture above is an activity we participated in where we were given a jar full of beach water, sand, and grunion eggs and when you shake it up, an enzyme is released which causes the baby fish to hatch. So essentially I’m now a grunion baby daddy.
Science is weird!
Poseidon has a sense of humor.
